U.S.-Iran fighting widens around Hormuz

The situation

Reuters, carried by Al-Monitor after Reuters' site blocked fetch, reported that U.S. and Iranian forces exchanged heavy missile and drone attacks Sunday. Iran said it had again closed the Strait of Hormuz after a vessel allegedly traveled on an unapproved route; U.S. Central Command said commercial vessels were still transiting. CENTCOM said U.S. forces hit 140 Iranian military targets Saturday and more than 300 across three nights. Iran said it targeted U.S.-linked facilities in Jordan, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar; Qatar reported three people injured by shrapnel, and Jordan reported minor damage and no casualties.

Why it matters: Hormuz carried about one-fifth of global oil and LNG shipments before the war. Even partial disruption can feed oil, shipping, insurance and inflation pressure into Monday's markets. The X attention scan found the same story dominating Parm's required list: official CENTCOM and Iran-related posts drew millions of views, making this both verified and high-attention.

Uncertain: whether the closure is operationally enforceable, whether Oman/Qatar mediation can restore transit rules, and whether energy prices gap higher when markets fully reopen.

Why it matters

For readers and investors, the issue is not only the headline event. It is how policy pressure, supply-chain exposure, defense spending, and strategic competition change the cost of doing business across borders.
